Just Added! A
beautiful language…butchered. This song may not
actually be “in development.” With apologies to Spanish speaking people
everywhere, I like it just as it is. A story of
neighborhood tragedy. My Spanish is pretty awful, but my intentions are
sincere. For those who can’t decipher the lyrics – which I suspect will be
most everyone -- here they are: VERSE 1: Maria was there like the sun and the earth --
everyone’s sister As kids we would play until long after dark Lovely and sweet, eyes that sparkled with
moonlight -- and made you adore her She went straight to your heart VERSE 2 Bobby would bring her wherever days took us Like one of the boys, she was there for the
fun We’d play on the beach and we’d party past
midnight Maria there laughing like the gold summer sun VERSE 3 You can’t stay young forever, my darling Maria If only we could then nothing would ever
change The hold you had on me was born in a river Of youthful emotion that knows no restraint VERSE 4 I loved you in silence, loved you like a
brother But these feelings I have are not to be denied I swim in your beauty, take flight in your
laughter Your spirit breathes through me and leaves me
refined CHORUS Oh help me my father, for I have dissembled From beauty and grace and from passion and
fear The love of a maiden so pure and so precious Lord what have I done to a heart that’s so
dear Oh father forgive me, for I have deserted The best friend that ever I had in this life And Bobby forgive me, I did not mean to hurt
her The lovely Maria, who I knew as a child VERSE 5 So walk with me father, as I go to the gallows Take hold of my hand and lead me to God I’ve begged for forgiveness, inside I am
hollow For the lovely Maria, I’ve paid with my life
and my heart The heart can’t deny what the heart hasn’t
longed for The heart only knows its own longing to find That one other heart that can beat in close
union That one other soul all hearts long for to
find REPEAT CHORUS So with that… Thanks for
listening. August 10, 2006 |
